Theodore Clark “Ted” Luebbers, 64 of Russell died Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at the Russell Regional Hospital.

Ted was born July 3, 1946 in Great Bend, Kansas, the son of Elmer “Fritz” and Bernice (Straub) Luebbers.  He grew up in Claflin, Kansas and graduated from Claflin High School in 1964.

Ted was united in marriage to Kathey Oeser on April 1, 1965 in Claflin.  This union was blessed with two children, Jeff and Lisa.  Later he was united in marriage to Ramona Jean Jennings on December 9, 1994 in Abilene, Texas. 

Ted worked in the oil field his whole life.  He started out on a pulling unit with DS&W Well Service, MISCO and Axelson.  He worked his way up to Production Foreman with SOHIO Petroleum (British Petroleum), Christa and Brock Oil & Gas.  Then he was the owner and operator of J&T Petroleum who contracted with Citation Oil & Gas.  He was well known in the oil field for his perfection in his work.

Ted also had a love for life and having fun with family and friends.  He loved working on and driving race cars, participating in demolition derbies, hunting, fishing, boating and being outside.  Ted believed you worked hard and played hard.

Surviving family include his wife Ramona of the home; son, Jeff Luebbers and wife Amy of Hays, Kansas; daughter, Lisa Feast and husband Rich of Osnabrock, North Dakota; step children, Amy Heckel of Dorrance, Kansas, Annette Scholoemer of Great Bend, Kansas and Arden Jennings of Gorham, Kansas; sister, Mary Ann Clair and husband Mike of Bushton, Kansas; brother-in-law, Gary Ely of McPherson, Kansas; and 12 grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Cheryl Ely.

Celebration of Ted’s Life will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, November 6, 2010 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell.  Burial will follow at Russell City Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 9 AM to 8 PM Friday, November 5, 2010 at the Mortuary with the family present to greet friends from 6 PM to 7 PM.  A memorial has been established with the Hays High School Build F.A.S.T.  Contributions and condolences may be sent in care of Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.
