Margaret J. Cox, 83, of Russell, passed away November 6, 2010. She was born December 6, 1926 in Kansas City, Missouri the daughter of Horace G. and Charlotte (Walker) Lansdon.
She grew up in the Kansas City where she attended school and graduated high school in 1939. After high school she earned her Associates Degree from Junior college. Margaret met her future husband through a girlfriend she worked with. She went on a blind date with her girlfriend’s boyfriend’s first cousin Warren E. Cox. At the time he was being trainded to become a flight service operator. In August he was transferred to Rock Springs, Wyoming. Margaret and Warren were united in marriage on December 12 1947 in Rock Springs. From this union they were blessed with two children a daughter Connie in 1949 and a son William in 1956. They moved to Russell, Kansas in 1949 and by 1955 they decided to make Russell their permanent home. Margaret worked for several attorneys over the years and was proud to work for Bob Dole while he was county attorney and continued to work for him until he closed his office. She also worked for Jan Banker at USD 407 and she worked for John O. Farmer with her last employer was with Ziegler Pulling. After the kids moved out of the house, Margaret and Warren started traveling. They went to Europe twice and took several cruises, and in the winter they would live in Phoenix, Arizona and during the summer they lived in Russell. They were both members of the Trinity United Methodist Church. They both enjoyed dancing, spending time with family and friends, and Margaret loved to shop. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her daughter Connie James, granddaughters Kendall James of Walnut, Kansas and Jennifer James of Russell and great granddaughter Kim James of Russell.
She was preceded in death by her husband Warren, son Bill, son in-law Jim and a brother Horace Lansdon.
A memorial service to celebrate Margaret’s life will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary Chapel in Russell with Pastor Terry McGuire officiating. Cremation has preceded the service and there will be no visitation. Contributions may be given and sent in care of the mortuary. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
