Martha Eichman, 91, of Russell, died on Sunday, November 7, 2010 at the Wheatland Nursing Center in Russell.

She was born on July 6, 1919 in rural Hoisington, Kansas, the daughter of Peter Sr. and Lydia (Bender) Schneider.  She grew up in the Hoisington area and attended country schools.  She met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Theodore Eichman on March 27, 1938 in Barton County, Kansas.  Martha and Theodore were the classic farming couple and managed their farm in the Hoisington area for many years.  From helping Theodore in the fields to tending to their cattle and other farm animals, it is safe to say that Martha loved living and working on the farm.  Martha lost her beloved husband on August 5, 1976, shortly after Theodore’s death, she moved and made Russell her home.  She was a member of the Lutheran Church and enjoyed card clubs, gardening, fishing and shopping. 

She was also preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers Pete Jr., Paul, Ted and August Schneider; 3 sisters Katherine Rein, Molly Pope and Christina Maier.

Martha is survived by many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service to celebrate Martha’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, November 13, 2010 at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary Chapel in Russell with Pastor Roger Dennis officiating.  Services will conclude at the mortuary and there will be no graveside service.  Visitation will begin from 9 A.M. to 8 P.M. on Friday, November 12, 2010 at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell with the family present from 6 P.M. to 7 P.M. Friday evening.  Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
