James Everett “Jim” Post, 93, of Great Bend and formerly of Rooks County, Kansas, died on Thursday, November 25, 2010 at the Cherry Village Nursing Center in Great Bend, Kansas.

James was born on July 13, 1917, in rural Rooks County, Kansas, the son of James O. and Malenna A. (Gregory) Post.  He grew up and attended rural local schools in the Rooks County area and graduated from Woodston High School.  Several years after high school he joined the Army in 1942 and fought during World War II in the European Theater.  He was awarded a Purple Heart for injuries received during fighting in France and Germany.  He met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Lucille LaVaughn Weldon on September 5, 1961 at the First Baptist Church in Codell, Kansas.  From this union they were blessed with two sons Loren and Ronald.  With Jim and Lucille the three most important things that they were dedicated to in life was their faith in God, their faith in family and their faith in the family farm.  When not working on the farm, you could find Jim in his work shop.  While working in his shop he enjoyed woodworking, tinkering, fixing, repairing and inventing machines, engines or other contraptions that he found interesting and was fascinated on how things worked.  He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Codell, Kansas where he was a treasurer and member of the board of trustees.  Most recently he was an active member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Great Bend.   James was known for his honesty, integrity, being a hard worker, and for his commitment to his marriage and family, especially his grandchildren.  He will be remembered as a man who was always ready to help family, fellow church members, friends and neighbors.  He will be deeply missed by everyone who knew and loved him.

Surviving family include wife Lucille of Great Bend, son Loren and wife Jennifer of Otto, North Carolina and son Ron and wife Shelly of Great Bend; brothers Doyle Post of Plainville, Edson Post of Wichita, Emery Post of Plainville, Delmar Post of Scott City and Charles Post of Concordia; grandchildren Dawson, Summer, Matheson, Holly & Megan; great granddaughter Sheridan.

James was preceded in death by his parents, sister Vola and infant brother Ronald.

A celebration of James’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, November 29, 2010 at the First Baptist Church of Codell, Kansas with Pastors Josh and Amy Foster officiating.  Burial will follow at the Conger Cemetery, outside of Codell, immediately following the church service.  Visitation will be from Noon to 8 PM on Sunday, November 28, 2010 at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Natoma.  Memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church of Codell and sent in care of the mortuary.  Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Natoma is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
