Azalea June Hachmeister was born June 18, 1920, the fourth child of George Franklin and Celesta (Adams) Glendening on the family farm home in Rooks County, Kansas. June attended the Hoskins Country School and graduated from Codell High School in 1938. On July 27, 1939, June was united in marriage to Laurence C. Hachmeister in the same home where she was born. They enjoyed 57 years of marriage until his death on September 10, 1996. Laurence and June were blessed with four children: Jill, Judy, Bruce and Cindy.
June was a loving and adored wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was proud of her family and enjoyed mending their clothes, baking their birthday cakes and making beautiful embroidery pieces, pillows, tablecloths, purses and clothing to give them as gifts. June continued to pay attention to the smallest details in her creations, often recalling the words of her beloved home economics teacher, Miss Rasch.
“Gramma June” was known for her delightful farm cooking and never knew when an extra guest would be invited in by Laurence. Her cookie jar was well known by her frequent visitors, and for many years, family and friends had a standing invitation for Saturday morning pancakes. Once, she and Laurence invited the whole town of Codell for Saturday morning breakfast and most of them came. None of them left hungry!
In addition to being a consummate homemaker, June also drove a school bus for 14 years and was a partner in the Codell grocery store in Codell. She also was a great help to Laurence on the farm. She celebrated her ninetieth birthday at the Codell Schoolhouse just a few months ago.
Preceding her in death in addition to her husband were her daughter Jill Russell, her parents, brothers Worden, Max, George F., Jr.(Bud), and sister Wanda Seefeld.
She is survived by daughters Judy (Gerald) Doerfler of Codell and Cindy (Godwin) Uloho of Wichita and son Bruce (Paula) Hachmeister of Codell as well, as son-in-law Jim Russell and his wife Elise, of Plainville. In addition, she leaves behind eleven grandchildren: Bryan and Kristen Russell, Dawn and Scott Phlieger, Joel and Amanda Russell, Dayna and Kevin Crawford, Drew Doerfler, Luke Hachmeister, Sarah Hachmeister, Rebekah Hachmeister, Gift Uloho, Brandon Uloha and Kesiena Uloha and eleven great grandchildren: Hayden, August, Kirsten and Alicia Phlieger, Danielle and Rachael Bickmore, Joshua and Isiah Russell and Courtney, Blake, and Cody Crawford.
June left for her heavenly home on December 7, 2010 and was laid to rest December 8 next to her husband in Shiloh Cemetery north of Codell.
Memorials services are December 10, 2010, at 2:30pm at the First Baptist Church of Codell where June was a life-long active member. Gramma June leaves a legacy of love, family devotion, sincere faith, and happy memories to all who shared in her life.
