Ronald Ernest Lumpkins, 56, of Russell died on Friday, December 10, 2010 at the Salina Regional Hospital in Salina, Kansas
Ron was born on March 13, 1954 in Plainville, Kansas, the son of Delwin and Ramona (Gates) Lumpkins. He grew up in Central, Kansas area and graduated from Holyrood High School in 1972. While he was married, he was blessed with two children, a daughter Melanie and son Jeremie. In 1975 he moved to Russell County, Kansas area where he has lived for 35 years and worked in the oilfields as a roustabout and pumper. Ron loved spending time outdoors pursuing his passions in life such as hunting and walleye fishing. For many years of his life, he enjoyed hang gliding, car racing and raising bird dogs for hunting. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by his children, grandchildren, sister, brothers and friends.
Ron was survived by his daughter Melanie Voss and husband David of Colby, Kansas; son Jeremie Lumpkins of Russell; sister Leanna Davis and husband Ed of Nacogdoches, Texas; brothers Del Lumpkins and wife Jill of Hutchinson, Kansas, Dwight Lumpkins and wife Nancy of Liberty, Texas, Loren Lumpkins and wife Karen of El Campo, Texas and Lonnie Lumpkins of Longview, Texas; grandchildren Brenton, Miah and Mallory.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service to celebrate Ron’s life will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Earl Haggard officiating. Cremation has preceded the service so there will be no visitation. The family requests that friends and family please give to the Ronald E. Lumpkins Memorial Fund. Condolences and contributions may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, who is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
