Elizabeth “Liz” Ann Chaney, 77, of Natoma, died on Monday, December 13, 2010 at the Stoneybrook Retirement Community in Manhattan, Kansas.
Liz was born March 31, 1933 in Galva, Kansas the daughter of Murice and Genevieve (Ramsey) Arnold. She lived in Galva until the age of twelve when her family moved to Codell.
Liz was united in marriage to Carl Chaney on February 22, 1950 in Stockton, Kansas. This union was blessed with four children; Carla, Coleen, Brian and Todd. They made their home in Plainville, Codell and Natoma areas.
Liz was a devoted homemaker and mother. She was a well known seamstress. She enjoyed making wedding dresses and clothes for family and friends.
She was a member of the Natoma United Methodist Church. She was named Volunteer of the Year for the Association of Retarded Citizens (ARC) in the state of Kansas. She also enjoyed oil and water painting, ceramics and playing cards.
Surviving family include her husband of 60 years, Carl of the home; daughters, Carla Kriley of Walker, Kansas and Coleen Deschner and husband Mike of Scott City, Kansas; sons, Brian Chaney and wife Sarah of Garfield, Arkansas and Todd Chaney of Hays, Kansas; brother, Larry Arnold of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin; sister, Lois Jones of Tampa, Texas; and five grandchildren, Ronnie, Dale, Brandon, Krystal and Megan. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Darold, Robert and Marland.
Celebration of Elizabeth’s Life will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, December 17, 2010 at the Natoma United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at the Natoma City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 AM to 8 PM Thursday at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Natoma. A memorial has been established with Association of Retarded Citizens.
