Sadie E. (Bachman) Feil, 92 of Russell died Sunday, January 2, 2011 at the Mercy Regional Health Center in Manhattan, Kansas.
Sadie was born November 17, 1918 southwest of Dorrance on the family farm, the daughter of Peter and Adella (Klusener) Bachman. She grew up in the Dorrance area and graduated from Dorrance High School.
Sadie was united in marriage to Jacob Feil, after he returned from the War, on November 30, 1945 in Dorrance. They were blessed with two children, Dean and Janice. They lived in Russell until 1954 when the family moved to Wichita. The family returned to Russell in 1959. Jacob preceded her in death on August 9, 2004. Sadie lived her last years in Manhattan, Kansas at the Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community.
Sadie was a devoted wife and homemaker for her husband and children.
Sadie was a member and very active in the Redeemer Lutheran Church of Russell and the church guild. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She enjoyed needlework, quilting, baking, dancing and taking care of her family.
Surviving family include her son Dean Feil and wife Judy of Andover, Kansas; daughter Janice Fuller and husband Bill of Manhattan, Kansas; brother Peter Bachman of Alamo, Texas; five grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, step mother, 2 brothers, 3 sisters and a grandson.
Celebration of Sadie’s Life will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, January 7, 2011 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell with Pastor James Strasen officiating. A private family committal will follow at Bunker Hill Cemetery in Bunker Hill, Kansas. Visitation will be from 9 AM to 8 PM Thurday, January 6, 2011 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary. The family will be present from 1PM Friday to service time to greet friends. A memorial has been established with Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community. Contributions and condolences may be sent in care of Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary who is in charge of these arrangements.
