Dennis Eugene Roberts, 63 of Russell died Sunday, January 23, 2011 at the Pratt Hospice House in Pratt, Kansas.
Dennis was born October 4, 1947 in Quinter, Kansas the son of Dale A. and Elsie (Albin) Roberts. He grew up in Quinter and graduated from Quinter High School. He also attended and graduated from the Vo-Tech School of Mechanics.
Dennis returned to Quinter after school and took up farming. He farmed in the Quinter area until 1981 when he moved to Russell. He worked at Gene’s Auto Service in Russell until 1983 when he started working for the City of Russell. Dennis worked for the City of Russell for over 26 years before retiring in 2009 as the City Street Supervisor.
Dennis was united in marriage to Brenda Stoppel on July 19, 2008 in Russell.
Dennis loved golfing, hunting, fishing, farming, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a fun loving guy that was always willing to help in any way.
Surviving family include his wife Brenda of the home; son, Chris Roberts and wife Margo of Pratt, Kansas; daughter, Teema Roberts and companion Doug Funk of Wichita, Kansas; two brothers, Melvin Roberts of Tucson, Arizona and Louis Roberts of Norton, Kansas; step-daughter Julie Dreher of Russell and step-son Dustin Dreher of Russell; two grandchildren, Devin and Kirsten, and his faithful dog Izzy. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter Dawn Roberts in 1994.
Celebration of Dennis’ Life will be held at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, January 27, 2011 at the Trinity United Methodist Church of Russell with Pastor Nanette Roberts officiating. Burial will follow at Russell City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 AM to 8 PM Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell with the family present to greet friends from 6 PM to 7 PM. A memorial has been established as the Dennis Roberts Memorial Fund. Contributions and condolences may be sent in care of Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.
