Eva (Milberger) Michaelis, 93, of Russell died Monday, March 7, 2011, at the Trego County Hospital in Wakeeney, Kansas.
Eva was born October 30, 1917, on the family farm southwest of Russell, the daughter of Henry B. and Mollie (Rein) Milberger. She grew up and attended school in Russell County.
Eva was united in marriage to Herbert J. Michaelis on August 11, 1946, at the Methodist Church in Russell. This union was blessed with three daughters: Linda, Patricia and Barbara. Eva and Herbert made their home in Russell.
Eva was a devoted homemaker and mother. She also was a sales clerk at Banker’s Mercantile and worked at the Russell Flower & Gift Shop.
Eva was an active member of the Trinity United Methodist Church. She played the organ for services for over 37 years. She also taught Sunday school and was a youth group leader.
Surviving family include her husband of 64 years, Herbert of the home; daughters, Linda Davis and husband Bob of Lawrence, Kansas, Patricia Michaelis of Topeka, Kansas, Barbara Michaelis of Hays, Kansas; and grandson, Steven Davis and wife Katie, great grandson Landon, of Springdale, Arkansas, and many family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Martha Milberger and brother Wesley B. Milberger.
Celebration of Eva’s Life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, March 11, 2011, at the Trinity United Methodist Church of Russell with Pastor Terry McGuire officiating. Burial will follow at the Russell City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 AM to 8 PM Thursday at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell with the family present to greet friends from 6 PM to 7 PM. Memorials have been established with the KU Endowment Association – Dr. Pahwa’s Parkinson Research and Trinity United Methodist Church music program, contributions and condolences may be sent in care of Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.
