Theresa O. Chung, 72, of New Windsor, New York, died on April 1, 2011 at her son’s home in Russell, Kansas.
Theresa was born on October 13, 1938 in Seoul, South Korea, the daughter of Chung Kichae and Kim Jumyae. She grew up and attended school in Seoul and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Korean Literature from Chunbook University. She met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Henry Y. Chung on May 28, 1970 at the Roman Catholic Church in Junju, South Korea. From this union they were blessed with two children Alexander and Soyon. In 1982 the family moved to their new home in New York. Theresa decided to go into the fashion industry and received an Associate’s Degree in Fashion at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, NY. After graduating she took a position as assistant fashion designer in Manhattan, New York. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hartsdale, NY. She loved sewing, gardening and painting landscapes in her spare time. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her children and granddaughter.
Surviving family include her husband Henry Y. Chung of New Windsor, New York; son Alexander K. Chung of Russell, Kansas; daughter Soyon Bongiovanni of Cranford, New Jersey; sister Angela Chung of Los Angeles, California, sister Chung Okhee of Seoul South Korea and granddaughter Sofia Bongiovanni of Cranford, New Jersey.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers Chung Insuk and Chung Moonsuk.
A celebration of the funeral mass will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at the St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Russell with Father James Grennan officiating. Visitation with the family present to greet guests will be from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. service time. Burial will take place in New Jersey. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
