Elton August Teppe, 91, passed away on Saturday, April 16, 2011, at the Golden Living Center in Wilson, Kansas, with his wife of 68 years by his side.

Elton was born to William and Amelia (Woelk) Teppe in Dorrance, Kansas on March 27th 1920. He grew up on the family farm west of Dorrance, attended Dorrance schools, graduating from high school in 1938.

Elton and his beloved wife, Winifred, would have celebrated 68 years of marriage on April 27, 2011.  They met and married in 1943, working and raising a family on the family farm. Except for the last 4 years, Elton and Winnie went to bed in the house where Elton was born on the same family farm at Dorrance.

During his lifetime, Elton farmed southwest of Dorrance and neighbored with those who shared the many challenges of farming. Elton and those neighbors displayed an American persona that our country would be wise to follow today. In retirement years, Elton and Winnie enjoyed square dancing and traveling, having fun with friends and family on outings to most states in the United States.

Elton is survived by Winifred, his wife, his daughter Ann Dumler, his daughter, Betty Driscoll, and his son, Elton A. (Butch) Teppe, Jr.  and his daughter-in-law, Beth. He is also survived by his grandsons, Scott Teppe and Cris Jorn, and his granddaughter, Annette Driscoll. Elton was brother to Dorothy (Jim) Hopper and uncle to Ginger Oaks Wallace, Gordon Benton, Debra Benton Sweeny, Jim Hopper (deceased), Bill Hopper (deceased), Becky Gott, Tom Hopper, Mike Hopper, and Tim Hopper.

He was preceded in death by both his parents.

A celebration of Elton's life will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell with Pastor Roger Dennis officiating.  Burial will follow at the Dorrance City Cemetery in Dorrance, Kansas.  Visitation will be from 1 PM to 8 PM on Monday, April 18, 2011 at the mortuary with family present to greet visitors from 6 PM to 7 PM Monday evening.  Memorials may be given to “The Morrison House” in Salina for families of hospital patients, and sent in care of the mortuary.  Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
