Martha Helen Ulrich, 90 of Russell died Monday, May 2, 2011 at Main Street Manor in Russell, Kansas.
Martha was born January 20, 1921 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the daughter of Julius and Bertha (Beeschke) Tews. She grew up and attended schools in Milwaukee and Kenosha areas.
Martha was united in marriage to John D. Ulrich on April 23, 1949 in Kenosha, Wisconsin. This union was blessed with two children; Wayne and Cathy. Martha moved to Kansas in 1949 shortly after her marriage. Martha was a devoted mother and housewife.
Martha was a member of the St. Mark Lutheran Church in Salina. Martha was always very active in the church. She also enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles. But it was her children and grandchildren that meant the most in her life.
Surviving family include her son Wayne Ulrich and wife Mary of Russell, Kansas, daughter, Cathy Reich and husband Mike of Buffalo, Minnesota; sister, Hildegard Siegler of LaCrosse, Wisconsin; nine grandchildren seven great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband John, brothers Erich Tews and Sigmund Tews, sisters, Olga Tews and Marie Tews and granddaughter Emily Jo Ulrich.
Celebration of Martha’s Life will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, May 5, 2011 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell. Interment will follow at the Wilson City Cemetery in Wilson, Kansas. Visitation will be from 9 AM to 8 PM Wednesday at the mortuary with the family present to greet friends from 6 PM to 7 PM and a prayer service at 7 PM. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary is in charge of these arrangements.
