Harvey John Miller, 95, of Russell, Kansas died on Sunday, May 8, 2011 at the Russell Regional Hospital Emergency Room.

Harvey was born on September 2, 1915 in Bushton, Kansas the son of George B. and Anna L. (Miller) Miller.  During his childhood he grew up in Bushton and graduated from Bushton High School in 1934.  After high school he attended Wichita Business College and after graduating Business College he took correspondence courses in higher accounting.  While living in Wichita, Kansas he worked for a chain of cafes as a bookkeeper for 3 years.  In 1939 he moved to Russell because he was hired as a bookkeeper for R. C. Williams Trucking.  Shortly after coming to Russell, he met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Esther E. Dietz on June 4, 1939 in Russell, Kansas.  From this union Harvey and Esther were blessed with two daughters Suzanne and June and celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary in 2006.  Harvey work for R. C. William Trucking as a bookkeeper for 6 years then later took a driver position with them until he retired.  Harvey and Esther were members of the Faith Community Church in Great Bend for many years.  After he retired he enjoyed wood working and solving crossword puzzles.  Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and getting together and visiting with close friends.  He will be remembered as a loyal and hard worker as well as a kind and considerate neighbor. 

Surviving family include his daughter Suzanne Hall and husband David of Chester, Illinois; 7 grandchildren Brenda Williams, Kim Crump, Charles Sutton, Anita Davis, Alan Davis, Johnny Davis and Nancy Martens and 19 Great Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Esther on January 18, 2007 and daughter Ora June Sutton.

A celebration of Harvey’s life will be held at 10 A.M. on Friday, May 13, 2011 at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell with Pastor Fred Kirkpatrick officiating.  Burial will follow at the St. John Lutheran Church Cemetery in Russell.  Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 8 P.M. on Thursday, May 12, 2011 at the mortuary with family to greet visitors from 6 P.M. to 7 P.M. Thursday evening.  Condolences and cards may be sent in care of the mortuary.  Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
