Evelyn Rose (Aksamit) Steinle, 95 of Russell died Friday, May 13, 2011 at Russell Regional Hospital in Russell, Kansas.
Evelyn was born December 20, 1915 on the family farm south of Lucas, Kansas, the daughter of Joseph and Anna Anselma (Novak) Aksamit. Evelyn grew up south of Lucas in Russell County and attended country school Blue Stem south of Lucas. She graduated from Lucas High School in 1934.
Evelyn and Raymond Steinle were united in marriage on August 3, 1941 at the Methodist church in Lucas. This union was blessed with three children; R. Keith, Wayne and Lana.
Evelyn and Raymond lived in Modesto, California from 1943 to 1952 where Raymond was stationed during the war. The family then moved back to Russell in 1952.
Evelyn worked for U.S.D. 407 as School Food Director for 25 years before retiring in 1982.
Evelyn was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church, U.M.W. and D.W.Y. She also was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Ladies Auxiliary of the Russell V.F.W., Friendly Neighbors, past member of the Business and Professional Women of Russell.
Surviving family include two sons, R. Keith Steinle of Russell, Kansas and Wayne Steinle and wife Jan of Sturgis, South Dakota; daughter, Lana Lindsay and husband Larry of Great Bend, Kansas; nine grandchildren, Kevin Steinle, Shawn Steinle, Dr. Jason Steinle, Dr. Nathan Steinle, Tyler Steinle, Robin Geibler, William Lindsay, Shantel Westbrook & Larry Lindsay, Jr.; eight great grandchildren, Halie Steinle, Karter Steinle, Grace Westbrook, Benjamin Westbrook, Victoria Westbrook, Makenna Lindsay, Kent Lindsay and Kade Lindsay; niece Sandra (Davis) Meyers; and two nephews, Leroy Davis and Michael Davis.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband Raymond, sister Blanche Davis, brother Wilbur Aksamit and granddaughter Natalie Dawn Steinle.
Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, May 20, 2011 at the Lucas City Cemetery in Lucas, Kansas with Jason Steinle officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M to 8:00 P.M. Thursday, May 19, 2011 and 9:00 A.M. to Noon on Friday, May 20th at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell. Memorials may be given to the Lucas Alumni Association and sent in care of the mortuary. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
