Leon Henry Stricker, 81 of Hutchinson and formerly of Milberger, Kansas died Monday, September 12, 2011 at the Reno County Hospice House in Hutchinson.

Leon was born January 30, 1930 on the family farm near Milberger, Kansas, the son of Henry, Jr. and Martha (Miller) Stricker.  He grew up in the Milberger area and graduated from Russell High School.  He then attended the Salt City Business College in Hutchinson.

Leon was united in marriage to Carla June Pruter on June 10, 1951.  This union was blessed with three sons; Kirk, John, and Luke.  They made their home in the Milberger area.  Carla preceded him in death on Sept. 12, 2001.  Leon was later united in marriage to Delores Pearson on August 23, 2003 in Hutchinson.

Leon was a farmer most of his life.  He also worked as a mechanic and truck driver for over 30 years for Dumler Repair and later Radke Implement in Milberger.

Leon was a member of the United Emmanuel Lutheran Church and served on the church council.  He served on the Russell County Planning Commission, the Russell County Farm Bureau Board, Lincoln Township Board, and had been a member of the Russell Elks Lodge and the Great Bend Eagles.  He loved playing and later on watching baseball, KU and K-State sports, fishing, hunting, and tractor pulls.

Surviving family include his wife Delores of the home; three sons, Kirk Stricker (Joni) of Salina, Kansas, John Stricker (Sandi) of Russell, Kansas and Luke Stricker (Brenda) of Winona, Kansas; two daughters, Debra Rhodenbaugh (Rick) of Inman, Kansas and Sandi Brackett (Mike) of Hutchinson, Kansas; sister, Verjean Goodnight of Kent, Washington; 15 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, two infant twins and sister Lenora Burns.

Celebration of Leon’s Life will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday, September 15, 2011 at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Milberger.  Burial will follow at the Milberger Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 AM to 8 PM Wednesday at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell with the family present to greet friends from 6 PM to 7 PM.  A memorial has been established with the United Emmanuel Lutheran Church.  Contributions and condolences may be sent in care of Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary who is in charge of these arrangements.
