Everett Dale Herbel, 84, of Dorrance, Kansas died on Thursday, October 13, 2011 at the Golden Living Center in Wilson, Kansas.

Everett was born on January 3, 1927, in Dorrance, Kansas, the son of Reinhart and Julia (Meier) Herbel.  He grew up and attended school in Dorrance, graduating from Dorrance High School in 1944 and after high school he attended Brown Mackie College.  After finishing his education he joined the United States Army as a rifleman during World War II.  Everett met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Vivian Brozek on July 22, 1956 in Dorrance and they raised two sons Terry and Vern.  After working as a farmer for a few years he went to work for the local COOP servicing the Dorrance and Russell areas for almost 30 years.  He was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church of Russell.  Previously he was a member and also very active working with the church council at the First Lutheran Church in Dorrance.  He enjoyed farming, ranching, driving large trucks, watching basketball and polka dancing with his wife.  Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren. 

He is survived by his wife Vivian of the home, his son Terry Hubbs and wife Susan of Phoenix, Arizona and Vern Herbel and wife Joan of McKinney, Texas; brother Eugene Herbel of Woodward, Oklahoma; sister Julia Mae England of Salina, Kansas and four grandchildren Melanie and Jessica Hubbs and Eric and Sara Herbel. 

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A celebration of Everett’s life will be held at 10 A.M. on Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at the St. John Lutheran Church of Russell with Pastor Roger Dennis officiating.  Burial will follow at the Dorrance City Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 9 A.M. To 8 P.M. on Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at the mortuary with family present to greet guests from 6 P.M. to 7 P.M. Tuesday evening.  Memorials may be given to the St. John Lutheran Church and sent in care of the mortuary.  Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
