LaVerta Ann Longnecker, 79, of Russell, Kansas, died on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at the St. John’s Nursing Center of Victoria, Kansas.

Ann was born on July 18, 1932 in Barton County, Kansas, the daughter of Pete Jr. and Anna E. (Herdt) Schneider.  She grew up in the Russell, Kansas area and graduated from Russell High School in 1949.  She was united in marriage to Robert D. Longnecker on June 10, 1950, in Russell, Kansas.  Robert preceded her in death on August 3, 1987.  Ann loved children and even though she never had any children of her own, she spent her entire life, surrounded by and caring for, children as a nanny and babysitter.  She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church of Russell and the Russell Senior Center.  She enjoyed watching television, listening to music and reading.

She is survived by her brothers Pete Schneider and wife Mary of Wilson, Kansas, and LeRoy Schneider and wife Nema of Jamestown, Kansas, and one sister LaVera Fields of Kimball, Nebraska.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, brothers Earlin, Harold and Archie Dean Schneider.

An immediate graveside service will be held at 11 A.M. on Thursday, February 9, 2012, at St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Russell, Kansas, with Pastor Roger Dennis officiating.  There will be no viewing or visitation scheduled.  Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
