Jeffrey Martin Miller, 48, of Lawrence, Kansas, passed away March 19, 2012, at the VA Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri due to complications after surgery.

Jeff was born on July 2, 1963 in Russell, Kansas the son of Samuel M. and Judith M. (Rogg) Miller.  Jeff’s father worked for the Federal Bureau of Indian Affairs, thus the family lived in several different states.  Jeff moved to Russell, Kansas when he was twelve and graduated from Russell High School in 1982.  He attended college at Kansas University for a short time and then joined the Army.  After his tour of duty in the Army, he joined the U.S. Army Reserves.  He honorably and proudly served his country in Desert Storm in 1994 and Iraqi Freedom from 2004 to 2005.  He was injured during this time which prompted the need for surgery.

Jeff worked in Lawrence in the Kibbles n’ Bits Division of Del Monte as an extruder operator.  He had worked in this job for over twenty years.

His passions in life were his children and his grandson Cooper Miller of Lawrence.  He enjoyed restoring older vehicles, guns, and NASCAR racing.  Jeff had many friends and co-workers.  Jeff never knew a stranger.  Jeff’s memberships included the Masonic Lodge and National Riflemen Association. 

Jeff was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Henry Martin Miller and Cora (Stout) Miller, and aunt Anna Miller and his paternal grandfather Doran Rogg all of Russell, Kansas.  He is survived by his children Heather Miller and Brandon Miller (Jamie and son Cooper) of Lawrence, Kansas; Son Jeffrey Miller Jr. of Greeley, Colorado.  Other survivors include his mother Judy (Rogg) Saul of Russell; father Samuel Miller of Boise, Idaho, sister Colleen Miller of Fort Collins, Colorado; grandmother Helen I. Rogg; uncle Darrell Rogg of Salina; aunt Diane Waymaster of Bunker Hill and uncle Robert D. “Bob” Miller of Russell.  Jeff chose to be an organ/tissue donor to be followed by cremation.

A gathering service to celebrate Jeff’s life will be 2:00 P.M. to 3:30 P.M. on Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell with interment of the cremains at the
Russell City Cemetery following the services at the mortuary.  In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be given to the Midwest Transplant Network or Wounded Warrior Project and sent in care of the mortuary.  Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell is in charge of the memorial service arrangements.
