Meade M. Bennett, 97, former Russell and Bunker Hill resident, passed away on Friday, April 13, 2012, in Arlington, Texas.
Meade was born on December 16, 1914, in Wilson, Kansas, the son of John and Lena (Fredrich) Bennett. He met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Violet A. Luerman on April 24, 1938, in Dubuque, Kansas. From this union they were blessed with two children Larry and Joan. He moved from Russell, Kansas, to Arlington in 1970. Meade was a retired financial officer with Pride of Texas Oil Company. He was a member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Fort Worth, Texas, and a life member of the Elks Lodge. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his many grandchildren.
Surviving family include his son Larry Bennett and Wife JoAnn; daughter Joan Bennett Forshee; 2 step-sisters; 5 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
A graveside celebration of Meade’s life will be held at 2 P.M. on Friday, April 20, 2012, at the Bunker Hill Cemetery in Bunker Hill, Kansas, with Pastor Roger Dennis officiating. Viewing will be Friday, the day of the service, from 9 A.M. to 1 P.M. with the family present to greet guest from Noon to 1:30 P.M. at the mortuary. Memorials may be given to the Bunker Hill Museum and sent in care of the mortuary. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
