Eugene Michael Brummer, 68, of Russell, Kansas, and former Smith Center resident, died on Sunday, May 6, 2012, at the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell, Kansas.
Eugene was born on February 3, 1944, in Tipton, Kansas, the son of Joseph F. and Mary H. (Boden) Brummer. He grew up in Tipton and attended the Sunflower Country School at Holy Corner. Survivors include three daughters, Jodi Holmes, Russell; Mary Ann Graham, Lawrence and Kristi Scott and husband Leonard, San Bernardino, CA; sister Helena (Brummer) O’Connor, Eugene Michael Brummer, 68, of Russell, Kansas, and former Smith Center resident, died on Sunday, May 6, 2012, at the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell, Kansas.
Eugene was born on February 3, 1944, in Tipton, Kansas, the son of Joseph F. and Mary H. (Boden) Brummer. He grew up in Tipton and attended the Sunflower Country School at Holy Corner. Survivors include three daughters, Jodi Holmes, Russell; Mary Ann Graham, Lawrence and Kristi Scott and husband Leonard, San Bernardino, CA; sister Helena (Brummer) O’Connor, Phillipsburg; and brothers Ignatius Brummer and wife Marge, Osborne and Edgar Brummer and wife Sandy, Hunter and six grandchildren, Lauren Holmes, Tawney Carter, Quinton Graham, Noah Scott, Michaela Scott and Heaven Scott. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Nicholas. For many years he worked as a farmer and rancher and when he retired he used his passion for antiques to become an antique dealer. He was a member of St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church, enjoyed spending time at the Russell Senior Center, dancing to polka music, singing and playing his guitar and had a love of horses.
A celebration of the funeral mass will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, May 12, 2012, at the St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Russell with Father Charles Steier officiating. The vigil service will take place at 7 P.M. on Friday evening, May 11, 2012, at the church. Burial will take place at 3 P.M. on Saturday, May 12th at St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery in Tipton, Kansas with Father Damien Richards officiating. Memorials may be given to the Russell School Music Fund or the 4-H Fund and sent in care of the mortuary. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
