Helen Arlene (Schmidt) Ginther, 94 of Ellsworth, Kansas and formerly of Russell died Friday, June 01, 2012 at the Ellsworth County Medical Center in Ellsworth, Kansas.
Helen was born December 1, 1917 in Lucas, Kansas the daughter of Reinhardt, Jr. and Kathrine (Milberger) Schmidt. She grew up and attended country schools in Dorrance, Kansas.
Helen was united in marriage to Alex Sander Ginther on February 12, 1936 in Dorrance. This union was blessed with six children; Don, Elnora, Milton, Glenn, Dwain and Allen. They made their home on a farm east of Russell. Alex preceded her in death in 1986. She then moved into town to the September Apartments.
Helen was a devoted mother and homemaker. She also was a C.N.A. for the Russell Regional Hospital during the late 60’s and 70’s.
Helen was a member of St. John Lutheran Church of Russell. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and loved taking care of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Surviving family include her daughter, Elnora Boatright (Bob) of Dorrance, Kansas; three sons, Don Ginther (Simone) of Luray, Kansas, Milton Ginther (Sharlet) of Russell, Kansas and Glenn Ginther (Daisy) of Russell, Kansas; brother, Willis “Bill” Schmidt of Dorrance, Kansas; sister, Leona Herpel of Wilson, Kansas; 12 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and one great-great grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sons Dwain and Allen Ginther, brothers Alvin and David Schmidt, sister Edna Kruckenberg and grandson Kenneth Ginther.
Celebration of Helen’s Life will be held at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at St. John Lutheran Church with Pastor Roger Dennis officiating. Burial will follow at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Russell, Kansas. Visitation will be from 9 AM to 8 PM Monday, June 4, 2012 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary with the family present to greet friends from 6 PM to 7 PM. A memorial has been established with St. John Lutheran Church. Contributions and condolences may be sent in care of to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary who is in charge of these funeral arrangements.
