Jerry Lee Klein, 64 of Russell, Kansas died Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at his home in Russell.
Jerry was born on March 30, 1948 in Russell, Kansas the son of Rudy and Louise (Klotz) Klein. He grew up and attended school in Russell.
Jerry served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He is a Purple Heart recipient. After he left the military, Jerry returned to Russell and lived there from then on.
Jerry was united in marriage to Florence Hoch on July 20, 1968. This union was blessed with two children; Clinton and Michele. They made their home in Russell.
Jerry was a roustabout in the oil fields for many years, working for Michaelis Oil, Stewart Oil, John O. Farmer Oil and many other companies in the area.
Jerry was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Russell and was a fourth degree Knights of Columbus. He also belonged to the Russell V.F.W. Post #6240. He has always had a great love for motorcycles his whole life. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing poker and watching drag races and monster truck events. He loved taking the time to watch and help take care of his grandson.
Surviving family include his wife of 44 years, Florence of the home; son Clinton Klein of Hays, Kansas; daughter, Michele Klein of Russell, Kansas; three brothers, Richard Klein, Neil Klein and Fred Klein all of Atlanta, Georgia; and grandson, Taten Klein.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Larry Klein.
Celebration of the Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, August 11, 2012 at the St. Mary, Queen of Angels Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the Bunker Hill Cemetery where the Russell V.F.W. Post #6240 Honor Guard will conduct Military Rites. Vigil will be held Friday evening at 7:00 PM at the St. Mary, Queen of Angels Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 9 AM to 5 PM Friday, August 10, 2012 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell. A memorial has been established as the Jerry Klein Memorial Fund. Contributions and condolences may be sent in care of Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.
