Marlene Kay (Thaete) Krug, 70, of Russell died Monday, October 08, 2012 at Main Street Manor in Russell, Kansas.
Marlene was born April 18, 1942 at the family home in Sylvan Grove, Kansas the daughter of Armin and Elta (Frey) Thaete. She grew up in Sylvan Grove and graduated from Sylvan Grove High School with the Class of 1960. She attended Ft. Hays Kansas State College and graduated with a Teaching Degree in Home Economics.
Marlene was united in marriage to Robert Waldean “Bob” Krug on June 7, 1964 in Sylvan Grove. This union was blessed with a son, Daniel. They made their home in Colby, Kansas before moving to Russell in 1966. Bob preceded her in death on June 19, 2011.
Marlene taught class in Colby for a couple of years before they moved to Russell. She then taught at the Russell High School before her son was born. Later on, she started working again as a Para for Simpson Elementary School. Then went on to work at Bickerdyke Elementary teaching Fifth Grade and later as the School Librarian. She retired in 2006.
Marlene was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Women’s E.L.C.A. Church Council and the Bell Choir. She also belonged to Delta Kappa Gamma Society, Russell Regional Hospital Auxiliary, 4-H Endowment and the Russell Library Board. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, knitting and Antiques.
Surviving family include her son, Daniel Krug (Linda) of Russell, Kansas; brother Marnie Thaete of Wichita, Kansas; and two grandchildren Lindsy Harders and Zachary Harders. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Celebration of Marlene’s Life will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, October 12, 2012 at St. John Lutheran Church with Pastor Roger Dennis officiating. Burial will follow at the Russell City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 AM to 8 PM Thursday, October 11, 2012 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary with the family present to greet friends from 6 PM to 7 PM. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. John Lutheran Church. Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, who is in charge of these arrangements.
