Izetta Elizabeth Berkey, 93, of Russell, Kansas, died on Tuesday, December 11, 2012, at the Golden Living Center in Wilson, Kansas.

Izetta was born on January 28, 1919, in Russell, the daughter of John and Lydia (Morgenstern) Radke.  She grew up in the Russell area and graduated from Russell High School in 1939.  She met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Winfred B. “Pete” Berkey on February 03, 1939, in Russell.  She worked with Pete as his electrician’s helper for many years.  She was a member of the First Christian Church in Russell. 

Surviving family include her niece Jenny Miller of California, great nieces Julie VonFeldt of Russell and Lisa Jezek and husband Ernie of Holyrood, Kansas; close friend Lana Zorn of Russell.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Pete Berkey on August 21, 1996, brothers Paul, Martie and Leon Radke and sisters Olinda Boxberger, Rosa Radke and Wanda Mortimer.

A graveside service to celebrate Izetta’s life will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, December 17, 2012, at the Russell City Cemetery in Russell, Kansas with Pastor Roger Dennis officiating.  Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to Noon on Monday, December 17th at the mortuary.  Memorials may be given to the Russell Food Pantry and sent in care of the mortuary.  Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
