Betty Lou (Sublett) Haynes, 91 of Lawrence, Kansas and formerly of Russell, Kansas died Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at the Select Specialty Hospital in Kansas City.
Betty was born September 18, 1921 in Kansas City, Kansas, the daughter of O.R. and Katherine (Daugherty) Sublett. She grew up in the Kansas City Metro area and graduated from Central High School. She then attended two years at the University of Kansas.
Betty was united in marriage with Darrell E. Haynes on November 8, 1947 in Kansas City. This union was blessed with two children; Fred and Kathy. They made their home in Russell, Kansas.
Betty was a devoted wife and homemaker.
Betty was a active member of the First Congregational Church of Russell. She also loved to golf, play bridge with friends and watch KU basketball.
Surviving family include her daughter, Kathy of Lawrence, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her husband Darrell, son Fred Haynes, three brothers and two sisters.
Celebration of Betty’s Life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, December 22, 2012 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell with Rev. Kasey Crosby officiating. A private family burial will follow the services. Friends may sign the book from 9 AM to 5 PM Friday at the mortuary. A Memorial has been established with the Lawrence Humane Society.
