Tabea Krug, 100, of Russell, Kansas, died on Sunday, December 30, 2012, at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.

Tabea was born on March 16, 1912, in rural Barton County, Kansas, the daughter of Henry and Elizabeth (Niedenthal) Dietz.  She was born almost one month before the sinking of the Titanic.  She lived in Barton County until age 6 when her family moved to the Bender Hill community where she grew up and attended school during her childhood.  She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.  She met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Herbert R. Krug on February 14, 1932, at the Bender Hill Trinity Lutheran Church.  From this union Tabea and Herbert were blessed with two sons, Wilmer and Harry.  Herbert preceded Tabea in death on October 30, 1991.  Tabea was a person who received great satisfaction and joy in being a wife, mother and homemaker and was known for keeping a very neat and clean home for her family.  She was a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church and enjoyed quilting with several ladies of the church.  Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Surviving family include her two sons Wilmer Krug and wife Beth and Harry Krug and wife Eileen all of Russell, Kansas; 1 grandson Jarrod Krug, 7 step grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, 5 brothers Henry L., Jacob, William, Ferdinand and Arvin; 1 granddaughter Tisha Downing.

A memorial service to celebrate Tabea’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, January 5, 2013, at the St. John Lutheran Church in Russell, with Pastor Roger Dennis officiating.  Cremation has preceded the service and burial of the cremains will take place at a later date.  Guestbook registration will be available from 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. on Friday, January 4, 2013, at the mortuary.  Memorials may be given to the Dream Theatre of Russell and sent in care of the mortuary.  Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
