Marjorie Mighell, 77, of Russell, Kansas, died on Friday, February 08, 2013 at her home.
Marjorie was born on September 28, 1935, on the family farm in Milberger, Kansas. She was the daughter of Harold and Esther (Blehm) Nuss. For a few years she lived in Milberger but eventually Marjorie and her family moved to Russell. She grew up in Russell and attended Russell Public Schools and graduated from Russell High School in 1954. She met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Roger H. Mighell on May 19, 1957 at St. John Lutheran Church in Russell. From this union Marjorie and Roger were blessed with two daughters Lisa and Denise. Roger preceded her in death on February 27, 2005. Before getting married Marjorie worked for Russell City Dairy. After marriage she worked at Gregwire Drug Store, was a bookkeeper and secretary for Specter Pipe and Supply and was manager of Show Off Fashions. After dedicating her life to her husband and children, she became a full time wife, mother and homemaker. Once the children were older she also was the manager at the Russell V.F.W. Post #6240. She was a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church and the V.F.W. Women’s Auxiliary. She enjoyed sewing, playing and watching sports, playing bingo, traveling and gardening with Roger. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her many grandchildren.
Surviving family include daughters Lisa Albrecht and husband Dennis of Kingwood, Texas and Denise Stritt and husband Jerry of Hays, Kansas; brother Dean Nuss of Russell; Sisters Dorothy Funk of Russell and Kay Gaines and husband Jack of Redmond, Washington; 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchild.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and son in-law David Shumaker.
A celebration of Marjorie’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, February 14, 2013, at St. John Lutheran Church with Pastor Roger Dennis officiating. Burial will follow at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Russell. Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 8 P.M. on Wednesday, February 13, 2013, at the mortuary with family present to greet guests from 6 P.M. to 7 P.M. Wednesday evening. Memorials may be given to St. John Lutheran Church or the Russell V.F.W. Post #6240 and sent in care of the mortuary. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
