Betty Jane (Yost) Laubhan, 84 of Russell, Kansas died Sunday morning, February 17, 2013 at the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell, Kansas.

Betty was born January 22, 1929 in Miami OK, the daughter of Mark and Irene (Logan) Yost.  She grew up and attended schools in the southeast Kansas and northeast Oklahoma area.  She graduated from Commerce High School, Commerce, OK in 1946.

Betty was united in marriage to Hubert Alexander Laubhan on January 25, 1947 in Russell where they made their home.  This union was blessed with three children; Lizbeth, Larry and Michael.  Hubert preceded her in death on October 26, 2008, after 61 years of marriage.

Betty worked various jobs, including the Tower Cafe, John O. Farmer, Inc. and KRSL Radio prior to the Russell County Republican Central Committee, of which she was a member for many years, approached her to run for County Clerk.  Betty was the Russell County Clerk for over 26 years having opposition only twice.  She was president of the Kansas County Clerk's Assn. She was most proud of this accomplishment.  She retired in 1994.

She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, and while in Beta Sigma Phi Sorority enjoyed dancing with Hubert at the Elks Club. The family enjoyed playing pitch and Betty insisted the grandchildren learn to play.

Surviving family include her three children; Lizbeth Thielen, Larry Laubhan and wife Sydnie and Michael Laubhan and wife Kathleen; five grandchildren, Angela Smith, Adam Thielen, Lucas Thielen, Matthew Laubhan, and Mark Laubhan and great granddaughter, Bailey Thielen.  She was also survived by her sister Carol Shouse and husband Ivan and her brother Bill Yost and wife Maureen, and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Celebration of Betty’s Life will be held at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell.  Burial will follow at the Russell City Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 9 AM to 8 PM Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary with the family present to greet friends from 6 PM to 7 PM.  A Memorial has been established with St. John Lutheran Church.  Contributions and condolences may be sent in care of the Mortuary who is in charge of these arrangements.
