Major XXXXX, 59, died Sunday June 2, 2013 at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City. She was born January 2, 1954 to XXXXX. She was a 1972 graduate of Wilson High School, Barton County Community College in 1984 with an Associate’s Degree in Nursing then a 1989 graduate of Fort Hays State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Science. She went on to pursue a Master’s Degree in Nurse Anesthesia from the University of Kansas in 1995. In 1992, she joined the United States Army Reserves and retired after 20 years of service. She worked as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Nurse Anesthesia Program at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City. She was a member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Shawnee, Kansas, the 4204th Army Reserve Center in Topeka, Kansas Association of Nurse Anesthetists, Kansas State Nurses Association, and Sigma Theta Tau. Christita is survived by her mother of Wilson, children, XXXXX of Overland Park, XXX Odin, XXXX of Great Bend, grandchildren, XXXX and XXXX, her sisters, XXX of Sylvan Grove; XXXX) of Wilson, and brother XXXX) of Cookeville, TN. She was preceded in death by her father. Visitation will be from 8am-6pm Thursday June 6, 2013 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell. Funeral mass will be at 10:00am Friday June 7 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wilson with Fr. Norbert Dlabal officiating. Burial will follow in St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the University of Kansas Endowment Fund or the church in care of the funeral home.
