Mildred Arlene (Tamerius) Wood, 91, of Russell, Kansas died Saturday, June 22, 2013 at The Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.
Mildred was born December 10, 1921 on the family farm in Taylor County, Iowa, the daughter of Hoyt and Hazel (Field) Tamerius. She grew up in Northern Missouri and Southern Iowa.
Mildred was united in marriage to Francis Duane Wood on July 23, 1939. This union was blessed with four children; Larry, Steven, Sharman and Kris. They moved to the Russell area in 1977. Mildred was a devoted homemaker and mom. She also worked at the Russell Regional Hospital for several years. Francis preceded her in death on June 3, 1981.
Mildred was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and the Russell Regional Hospital Auxiliary. She loved sewing, gardening, reading, watching the Royals and the Cardinals and talking politics.
Surviving family include two sons, Larry Wood (Joan) of Danville, New Hampshire and Steven Wood (Susie) of Cheyenne, Wyoming; two daughters, Sharman Haselhorst (Leon) of Great Bend, Kansas and Kris Gibson (Mark) of Monterey, Louisiana; two brothers, Cecil Tamerius of Belleville, Kansas and Ed Tamerius (Marilyn) of Hannibal, Missouri; seven grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren. She was preceded by her parents, six brothers and a granddaughter.
Celebration of Mildred’s Life will be held at 3:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell. Burial will follow at The Russell City Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, June 24, 2013 from 9 AM to 8 PM. A Memorial has been established with the Russell Hospital Auxiliary. Contributions and condolences may be sent in care to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.
