Dorothy Lee (Fairchild) Ruby, 87, of Bunker Hill, Kansas died Friday morning, July 26, 2013at the Russell Regional Hospital.
Dorothy was born August 29, 1925 in Bunker Hill, the daughter of Alton and Ferol (Miller) Fairchild. She grew up in Bunker Hill and graduated from Bunker Hill High School. She also attended one year of school at Ft. Hays State University.
Dorothy was united in marriage to Ray Edward Ruby on January 1, 1947 in Great Bend, Kansas. This union was blessed with a son, Bruce. They made their home in Bunker Hill.
Dorothy was a devoted mother, homemaker and farmer’s wife. She was a member of the Bunker Hill Methodist Church, V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary, Bunker Hill Historical Society, the Kansas Livestock Association, American Herford Association and a member of the Republican Committee. She enjoyed traveling, cats, cattle, and politics.
Surviving family include her son, Bruce Ruby and wife Cathy of Bunker Hill, Kansas; three grandchildren; John, William and Eugene Wilbourn. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ray, and sister Barbara Splawn.
Celebration of Dorothy’s Life will be held at 11 A.M. Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell with Pastor Earl Haggard officiating. Visitation will be from 9 AM to 5 PM Tuesday at the mortuary. Cremation has taken place. A private family burial of the cremains will follow the service. A Memorial has been established with the Bunker Hill United Methodist Church. Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.
