Hubert W. Steinert, 93, of Longmont, CO passed away on October 3, 2013 at his home.  He was born March 16, 1920 in Milberger, KS to Jonathan and Eugenie (Morgenstern) Steinert.

Living through the 1935 Kansas Dust Bowl, supporting his family during WWII while his brother was in the service, he continued to make a living through the Great Depression.  Hubert married Doris E. Berschauer in 1941.

He owned a Mobil gas station, farmed for himself and helped his father build and remodel houses in the Russell, Kansas area.  Coming from a musical family, he learned to play the base upright fiddle and joined the group “The Saddle Pals”.  They performed at many rodeos and clubs in Kansas.

In 1956, he moved his wife and two daughters to Longmont, CO.  He worked for Ivan Forbes as a custom cabinet maker and later he became a private contractor building homes in Longmont and Big Elk Meadows.  He continued this into his 70’s.

After his divorce, he found many new friends by joining numerous square dancing clubs and he loved ball room dancing.

When Hubert was 89, D&S Land, LLC was formed with his daughter Cathy, her husband Don and grandson Chad and the family farm in Paradise, Kansas was once again producing crops.

He said a 60 year age difference in farming experience was a great learning curve for all.  He last drove his International tractor on Memorial Day, 2013.

He is survived by his daughters, both living in the Longmont area, Cathy E. Diesing, her husband Don Diesing and their son Chad M. Diesing and Carol Ann Rice and her son Troy Rice.

Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Thursday, October 10, 2013, at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell, Kansas with Pastor Roger Dennis officiating.  Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to service time on Thursday, October 10th with the family present to greet guests.  Burial will follow the service at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Russell, Kansas.  A Memorial service will be held in Longmont, CO at a later time.  Share condolences at www.ahlbergfuneralchapel.com.  Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary is in charge of the funeral services.
