Ruby Daldeen (Fortner) Blazer, 76 of Natoma, Kansas died Monday, October 28, 2013 at Redbud Village in Plainville, Kansas.

Ruby was born March 28, 1937 in Gossell, Kansas the daughter of James Kendall and Belva (Joiner) Fortner.  She grew up in Kingman, Kansas and graduated from Kingman High School.  She then attended Sterling College.

Ruby was united in marriage to James Everett “Jim” Blazer on April 10, 1981 in St. John, Kansas.  They made their home in Great Bend and later in 1999  they moved to Natoma, Kansas.

Ruby was the owner and operator of the “Special Touch Flower Shop” in Great Bend where she was known for her porcelain dolls she created.

Ruby was a member of the Natoma United Methodist Church.  She enjoyed spending her time quilting, cross-stitching, decorating, and arranging flowers. She had a passion for gospel music and preaching the Word to several churches.

Ruby’s surviving family include her husband of 32 years, Jim of the home; three sons, Kelly Staples of Okeechobee, Florida, Kent Staples and James Blazer III(Lois) of Beloit, Kansas; two daughters, Tammy Hoffman of Cawker City, Kansas and Jacci Standlee (Rick) of Ellinwood, Kansas; five grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; her cousin Kristi Fontenot(Steve) and Uncle Larry Fortner(Zelda).  She was preceded in death by her parents and Signa K. Mahaffey.

Celebration of Ruby’s Life will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, October 31, 2013 at the Natoma United Methodist Church in Natoma, Kansas.  Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. at the Lakin Commanche Cemetery in Ellinwood, Kansas also on Thursday.  Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to Service time on Thursday at the Church.  A Memorial has been established with the Natoma Senior Center.  Contributions and condolences may be sent in care of Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary who is in charge of these arrangements.
