Berniece Johanna (DeWald) Weimaster, 85 of Russell died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2007 at Russell Regional Hospital. Berniece was born Oct. 26, 1922 in Russell County, the daughter of Henry and Anna (Diel) DeWald. She grew up in southern Russell County near the Milberger and Bender Hill areas. She graduated from Russell High School in 1940.
After high school she moved to Independence, Kansas for a short time then returned to the Russell area. She was united in marriage to Floyd Weimaster on June 14, 1947 in Russell. This union was blessed with two sons, Allen and Dale.
Berniece worked at Home State Bank in Russell for a few years and then became Floyd’s bookkeeper for Evans Radiator. However, her main passion in life was being a devoted homemaker.
She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church of Russell and church Circle. She also was very active in the Russell V.F.W. Post 6240 Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing bridge, quilting and crocheting, and growing large pumpkins in her garden. She was an artistic person who wrote poems for all the cards she made for family and friends, creating unique crafts for the grandkids and being able to draw a pattern for what ever she wanted to create.
Berniece’s surviving family includes her husband Floyd of Russell, sons Allen Weimaster and wife Sue and Dale Weimaster and wife Joan all of Russell; brother Harvey DeWald of Phoenix, Arizona; grandchildren Bryan Weimaster and wife Alisha of Hays and Jennifer Weimaster and fiancé Kurt Brooke of Wichita and six step grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and three sisters and a step-daughter Tana Skaggs.
Celebration of Berniece’s Life is scheduled for 11:00 AM Monday, Dec. 31 at Trinity United Methodist Church with Rev. Warren Hett officiating. Interment will follow at the Russell City Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, noon to 8:00 PM. A memorial has been established with Trinity United Methodist Church. Contributions may be left with the mortuary.
