Wilmer Dee “Dub” Sellers, 79 of Russell died Sunday, June 22, 2008 at his residence.  Dub was born July 29, 1928 in Spur, Texas the son of Hardy Mason and Parlie (Arnold) Sellers.  He grew up and attended schools in the Eastland and Spur, Texas area.

 

Wilmer served his country in the United States Army during the conclusion of WWII.  He served overseas in Korea and was a driver.

 

Dub was united in marriage to Mildred Fern Jenkins on August 20, 1944 in Eastland, Texas.  This union was blessed with three children; Henry, Don and Patsy.  Mildred preceded him in death on February 13, 1999.

 

After returning from Korea, Dub started working in the oil field in the Berger, Texas area.  He then moved to Perry, Oklahoma and then to Kiowa, Kansas in 1955.  He was working for Halliburton Oil Co. when Dub and his family moved to Hays in 1959.  They then moved to Russell in 1967.  In 1967 Dub started Allied Cementing with a couple of partners.  He was involved with this company until 1981when he started Royal Acid & Special Tools.  He retired in 1992.

 

Dub was active in the Russell V.F.W. Post 6240 for many years, as well as, the Russell Masonic Lodge and the Salina Consistory ISIS Shrine.  Dub loved dancing especially the 1940’s style of dance.

 

Dub’s surviving family include two sons, Henry Sellers of St. Louis, MO and Don Sellers and wife Lois of Russell; daughter, Patsy Kanak and husband Norman of Grant City, MO; two brothers, Billy C. Sellers of Arizona and Bobby G. Sellers of Brady, TX; four sisters, Maudin Jordan of Hamlin, TX, Correne Tanner of Dumas, TX, Peggy Kelly of Sylvester, TX and Debbie Valenkamp of Old Glory, TX; 10 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and  wife Mildred.

 

Celebration of Wilmer “Dub’s” Life will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, June 26, 2008 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary.  Burial will follow at the Russell City Cemetery with the Russell VFW Post #6240 performing military rites.  Visitation will be from 9 AM to 8 PM Wednesday at the mortuary with the family present to greet friends from 6 PM to 8 PM.  A memorial has been established with Russell VFW Post #6240.  Contributions and condolences may be left with Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary who are in charge of these arrangements.
