Alden Benjamin Detrixhe, 84, of Russell and former Hays resident, died on Friday July 18, 2008 at his home.

The son of Joseph and Grace (Snavely) Detrixhe, Alden was born in Ames, Kansas on October 22, 1923.  He married Capdolia Goernandt on August 14, 1944 in San Francisco, California.  On May 9, 1944 he joined the U.S. Navy during World War II.  He was a health inspector for the State of Kansas as well as a county health inspector for Greenwood, Montgomery and Ellis counties.  He also owned and operated the Ellinwood Packing Plant for several years.  He remained involved with agriculture at his farm south of Hays for 30 years until his retirement to Russell in 2003.  He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hays, a member of the Isis Shrine of Salina and a 32nd Degree with the Scottish Rite.  He enjoyed golfing, doing yard work, pulling pranks on people and driving fast.  Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family especially his kids, grandkids and great grandchildren. 

He is survived by his wife Cappy of the home; two sons Stan A. Detrixhe and wife Mary Hart of rural Hays and Gene Detrixhe and wife Mary Elizabeth, of rural Russell; a brother Arvid Detrixhe of Concordia; five grandchildren Tasha, Tim, Emma, Miles and Rena; four great grandchildren Ella, Liliana, Jack and Adalie. 

He was preceded in death by a sister Myra Lewis and a brother Clinton Detrixhe. 

A memorial celebration of Alden’s life will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary Chapel of Russell.  Cremation has preceded the service and there will be no viewing or visitation.  Memorials may be given to the Southwind Hospice.  Memorials and condolences may be mailed to the mortuary at 610 N.
