Lester Ray Anderson, 78 of Alva, OK died Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at his home.  Lester was born September 26, 1929 in Shattuck, OK, the son of J.Webb and Blanche N. (Wilson) Anderson.  He grew up in Covinton and Garber, OK., Hamilton, KS. and graduated from high school in Rawlins, WY.

He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Korean War.  He was in Security stationed in San Francisco. 

Lester was united in marriage to Carol Ann Griffin on July 20, 1950 in Russell, KS.  This union of over 58 years was blessed with two children, Ronald Dean and Ava Gayle. 

Lester worked for Republican Natural Gas Co. for over 12 years while living in Ellinwood, KS.  Then in 1965 Lester and his family moved to Guymon, OK where he worked for Exxon Mobil in the oil and gas production for over 45 years.  In 2007, Lester and Carol Ann moved to Alva, OK to be closer to their daughter.

Lester was a member of the Victory Memorial United Methodist Church.  He was past president of the Wit and Okiebago RV Club, past president of the Mr.& Mrs. Garden Club, past president of the Jeans and Janes Square Dance club.  He also was a past president of the Guymon Lions club where he received the Melvin Jones Award, the hightest award of the Lions club.  He loved traveling all over the country and snow birding in his Winnebago to Rock Port, TX. fishing and boating with his family, bowling, playing dominoes and family genealogy. 

Surviving family include his wife Carol Ann of the home; daughter, Ava Gayle Purcell and husband Keith of Alva, OK; daughter-in-law, Juneva Tunder Morton of Costa Rica; two sisters, Shirley Dreiling of Great Bend, KS and Carol June Rosin of Dallas, TX; two grandkids, Tejay Purcell and Tracy Purcell Lewis and husband Billy.  He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Delbert, Dean and infant brother; and grandparents, Harvey and Pearl Wilson and Will and Crete Anderson.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, July 25, 2008 at Pleasant Plains Cemetery north of Natoma, Bob McCobb will be officiating the service.  Viewing will be from 1 PM to 5 PM, Thursday, at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell.  Memorials have been established with the Lions Eye Bank or the Natoma Senior Center.  Contributions and condolences may be sent in care of Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary who is in charge of these arrangements.
