Lloyd Davis, 88 of Russell died Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at the Mitchell County Hospital Health Systems in Beloit, Kansas.  Lloyd was born July 26, 1919 in Ada, OK., the son of Joe and Delphia Davis.  He grew up in Ada and graduated from Ada High School in 1940.

 

He was united in marriage to Evelyn Echols on Jaunary 12, 1940 at Coalgate, OK.  This union was blessed with three children, Ruth Ann, Jim and Ron.

 

Lloyd worked in Oklahoma City until 1943 when he and his family moved to Lyons, KS where he worked in the oil field.  For a short time he worked for Texaco Oil Co.  Then in late 1943 he started working for Halliburton Cementing.  He worked there until 1966 when he moved to Russell, KS from Hays and started Allied Cementing.  He stayed with Allied for 10 years before retiring.  He still worked as a consultant on oil wells.

 

He was a member of the Bible Baptist Church of Russell.  He enjoyed fishing especially with his grandchildren, bowling and playing golf.

 

Lloyd’s surviving family include his wife Evelyn of the home; daughter Ruth Ann and husband Art Hutson of Boise, Idaho; two sons, Ron Davis and wife Marilyn of Russell and Jim Davis and wife Lois of Olathe, KS; 11 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and two sisters.

 

Celebration of Lloyd’s Life will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, July 26, 2008 at the Bible Baptist Church of Russell with Pastor Dale Lane officiating.  Interment will follow at Russell City Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 9 AM to 8 PM Friday with the family present to greet friends from 7 PM to 8 PM.  A memorial has been established with the Bible Baptist Church.  Contributions and condolences may be sent in care of Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell who is in charge of these arrangements.Condolences may also be sent via email at www.pvpmortuary.com.
