Helen Mildred Mohl, 89 of Russell died Sunday, August 31, 2008 at the Golden Living Center in Lucas, Kansas.  Helen was born January 13, 1919 in Ogallah, Kansas, the daughter of Michael and Anna (Sander) Hammerschmidt.  She grew up in Ogallah and attended school there.

 

Helen was united in marriage to William “Fred” Mohl on April 13, 1942 in Great Bend, Kansas.  This union was blessed with four children; Patricia, Fred, Sandra and Cynthia.  Helen was a devoted mother and homemaker.  She enjoyed sewing and cooking, but taking care of her family always came first.

 

She was a member of St. Marys, Queen of Angels Catholic Church.

 

Surviving family include four children; Patricia Reed of Hutchinson, William “Fred” Jr. and wife Mildred of Lawrence, Sandra Hoopes and husband Jack and Cynthia Clenney and husband Rusty all of Russell; brother, Elias Hammerschmidt of Kingman, sister, Viola Robben of Walker; and 7 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 2 step great grandchildren.   She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Fred on March 14, 1992; four sisters, Sister Armella, Mary Weigel, Irene Pfannenstiel and Salvina Pfaff; four brothers, Norbert, Fred, Alvin and Richard; infant grandson, Clint Roland Clenney; step grandson, Mark Reed; and son-in-law, ExCel Reed.

 

Celebration of the Funeral Mass is scheduled for 2:00 PM Wednesday, Sept. 3 at St. Marys, Queen of Angels Catholic Church with Father Charles Steier officiating.  Burial will follow at the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Russell.  The Rosary will be at 1:30 PM Wednesday before the service at the church.  Viewing will be from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM Tuesday at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary.  Memorials have been established with St. Marys Catholic Church, Golden Living Center in Lucas and the Russell Fire Department.  Contributions and condolences may be left with Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary who are in charge of these arrangements.
