Earle Dean Terry, 85, of rural Russell, Kansas, died on Friday, September 26, 2008 at the Russell Regional Hospital.  Earle was born on July 21, 1923 at the family home in Waldo, the son of Lester and Anna (Bodmer) Terry.

Earle graduated from Waldo High in 1941 with his high school sweetheart, Ida Trapp.  They were married on November 13, 1944 before he served in Europe with a heavy machinegun squad during World War II.  After the war they settled on a farm north of Russell where they were blessed with four children:  Charles, David, Luella, and Corinne.  Earle had many special talents, but chose to continue his passion for farming and ranching.  This passion was surpassed only by his love for his family.  He also was community-minded, serving for the Waldo United Methodist Church as board member, Treasurer, and Sunday School Superintendent.  He also was a long-serving member of the Waldo, Natoma, and Paradise School Boards.

Surviving family includes his wife of almost 64 years, Ida, of the home; son Charles Terry and wife Pam of Bakersfield, California; son David Terry and wife Lena of Ashburn, Virginia; daughter Luella Masters and husband Brian of Burlington, Kansas; daughter Corinne Masters and husband Delwin of Natoma, Kansas; sister Frances Matheson of Russell; and sisters-in-law Mildred Terry and Evelyn Trapp also of Russell.  Earle and Ida have 12 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Albert Terry, and infant grandson Earle Lee Terry.

A celebration of Earle’s life will be held at 2 PM on Sunday, September 28, 2008 at the Waldo United Methodist Church with burial to follow at the Grand Center Cemetery north of Waldo.  Visitation will be from noon to 8 PM on Saturday, September 27, 2008 at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell with the family present from 6 PM to 7 PM.  Memorials may be made to the Waldo United Methodist Church and sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary * 610 N. Maple * Russell, KS  67665.  Condolences may be mailed, or sent via www.pvpmortuary.com.  Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
