Paul P. Moore, 95, of Russell died October 13, 2008 at Russell Regional Hospital.  He was born in rural Phillips County on September 22, 1913, the son of Roy & Faye Moore.  He grew up in that area and graduated from Phillipsburg High School in 1931.

In 1936, Paul came to Russell to lease the Conoco filling station at Main & Hwy 40.  It was there that he met Fern Deines, whom he married on November 15, 1938.  This union was blessed with one daughter, Kathleen, born in 1948.

Paul continued to own, operated and expand the Conoco Station until his retirement in 1979, excepting for the dates of his military service.  He served with the 8th Army Air Corps from 1942 to ’46, with tours in England and Germany.

Paul was a member of the First Congregational Church, a life member of Russell V.F.W. Post #6240, the Russell Elks Lodge, Russell American Legion Post #99 and the Isis Shrine Temple.  He served on the Russell City Council in the 1960’s and was involved in the Council’s purchase of the new power plant in 1964.

Paul was an avid bird hunter and fisherman, taking frequent excursions to South Dakota and Minnesota.  Following his retirement, Paul and wife Fern took up golf, spent summers at their vacation home in Evergreen, Colorado and took numerous trips throughout the United States and Canada.

Surviving family members include his daughter, Kathleen Moore-Silva and husband Tony of Littleton, Colorado; grandson William “Erin” Moore, III and wife Melissa of Elk Grove, California and one great granddaughter, Kaylee Moore.  He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Fern in January, 1997.

The family will be present to greet friends from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM Saturday, October 25, 2008 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell.  Military Rites will be conducted at the Russell City Cemetery following the gathering by the Russell V.F.W. Post #6240 Honor Guard.  Memorials have been established with the Russell Regional Hospital and the Children’s Shrine Hospital.  Contributions and condolences may be sent in care of the Mortuary.  Condolences may also be sent via email at www.pvpmortuary.com.  Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell is in charge of these arrangements.
