Ronald Eugene Ryan, 51 of Edmond, Oklahoma and formerly of Russell, died Thursday, October 23, 2008 in Edmond. Ron was born July 5, 1957 in Hoisington, Kansas the son of Robert E. and Leona R. (Wegele) Ryan. At a young age his family moved to Russell where he grew up. He graduated from Russell High School in 1975.
Ron worked as a custodian for the U.S.D. 407, mainly at Russell High School. He also was on the maintenance teams who took care of all the schools in Russell. In 1993, Ron moved to Bunker Hill, Kansas. He was a former employee at the Bearhouse Travel Plaza and ABCO Wire. While living in Bunker Hill he also volunteered his time with the Fire Department. In 1997 Ron moved to Edmond.
Ron was a simple guy who liked simple things. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time at the lake. In Edmond he also was involved with the Free To Live Animal Shelter.
His surviving family include his son Michael and wife Kimberly Ryan of Russell; daughter Shayla Ryan also of Russell; the children’s mother, Shelly Twenter of Russell; brother, Darrell and wife Valerie Ryan of Russell; sister Patricia Broce and husband Jack of Council Grove, Kansas; grandson Treiton Ryan; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Sharon Berens.
The family will be present to greet friends from 1PM to 2:45 PM Tuesday, October 28, 2008 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary. Graveside services will be held at 3 PM, Tuesday, October 28th at the Russell City Cemetery after the family greeting. Visitation will be all day Monday from 9 am to 8 pm. Memorials have been established with Free To Live Animal Shelter in Guthrie, Oklahoma. Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell.
