Dorothy Mae “Doss” (Ostmeyer) Schlageck, 90 of Overland Park, Kansas and formerly of Russell died Monday, November 24, 2008 at the Olathe Medical Center in Olathe, Kansas.  Doss was born October 27, 1918 in Angelus, Kansas, the daughter of George H. and Christina (Fromme) Ostmeyer.  She grew up on the family farm near Angelus and graduated from Grinnell High School.  She then attended the Strickler Business School in Topeka.

 

She was united in marriage to Joseph F. Schlageck on October 8, 1947 in Grinnell, Kansas.  This union was blessed with three children; Tina, Joe and Susie.  Joe and Doss made their home in Russell for over 37 years.  Doss helped Joe run their car dealerships for many years in Russell, Hays and Hoxie.  She also painted and insulated homes as well as sold them.

 For the last 3 ½ years Doss has lived in Overland Park to be closer to her children.

 

Doss was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the church Guild.  She also was a member of the POETS Club. 

 

Surviving family include her children, Tina Renner of Indianapolis, Indiana, Joe Schlageck of Manhattan, Kansas and Susie Sander of Overland Park, Kansas; brother John Ostmeyer of Colby, Kansas; sister, Merce Webster; sisters-in-law-but sisters at heart, Fritz Ostmeyer and Mary Ostmeyer both of Colby, Kansas and Jeannie Ostmeyer of Grinnell, Kansas; 10 grandchildren, Matthew Renner, Bart Renner, Nick Renner, Luke Sander, Lynn Sander, Elizabeth Sander, Sam Schlageck, Scott Schlageck, Sara Schlageck and Skyler Schlageck.  She was preceded in death by her husband Joe, and four brothers, George “Butch” Ostmeyer, Charles “Chuck” Ostmeyer, Wilford “WB” Ostmeyer and Gene Ostmeyer.

 

Celebration of the Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, November 29, 2008 at St. Mary, Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Russell.  Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 1 PM to 4 PM Friday at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary.  A Vigil will be held at 7 PM Friday evening at St. Mary, Queen of Angles Catholic Church.  The family has requested that memorials be given to the Joe and Dorothy Schlageck Scholarship Fund and sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary * 610 N.
