Ricky Duran Mayberry, Sr, 51 of Russell died Thursday, November 27,2008 at the Russell Regional Hospital after a courageous battle against cancer.  Ricky was born November 14, 1957 in Borger, Texas the son of Jerry and Alta (Golden) Mayberry.  In the 3rd grade, Ricky and his family moved to Plainville, Great Bend and then Russell.  He has lived most of his life in the Russell area, but also lived in Oklahoma and Nebraska for a short time.

 

Ricky was united in marriage to Susan Naylor on September 19, 1980 in Clay Center, Nebraska.  This union was blessed with three children; Ricky, Jr., Cassandra and Jessica.

 

Ricky has worked in the oil field most of his life.  He was mainly a pulling unit operator.  He worked for Don Karst Well Service, Doc’s Well Service and Mid-Kan.

 

Ricky attended the Bunker Hill United Methodist Church.  He also was a very active member in THE MEN Mc. – Kansas Chapter.  Spending time with his family and friends was very important to Ricky.  He was a very social person who enjoyed riding his Harley and having barbeques with family and friends.

 

Surviving family include his wife of 28 years, Susan of the home; three children, Ricky, Jr. and wife Connie, Cassandra Mayberry and Jessica Mayberry all of Russell; seven brothers, Jerry Don Mayberry and Haley Mayberry of Borger, Texas, Ronny Jo Mayberry and Jerry Terral both of Woodward, Oklahoma, Terral Mayberry of Stinnett, Texas, Eugene Blanke of Claremore, Oklahoma and David Blanke of St. Louis, Missouri; four sisters, Lynn (Mayberry) Smith of Hoisington, Heidi Blanke of Baldwin, Missouri, Starr Gates of Wichita, Kansas and Kelly Shelton of Dallas, Texas; Step-father, Kenneth Blanke of Russell; 4 grandchildren and numerous distant family.  He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Celebration of Ricky’s Life will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell with Pastor Earl Haggard officiating.  Interment will follow at Russell City Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 9 AM to 8 PM Monday at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary.  A memorial has been established as the Ricky Mayberry Memorial Fund.  Contributions and condolences may be left with Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary who are in charge of these arrangements.  Condolences may also be sent via email at www.pvpmortuary.com.
