Bulah Faye Carter, 84, of Russell, died on Monday, December 1, 2008 at the Main Street Manor in Russell Regional Hospital.  She was born on March 11, 1924 in Cordell, Oklahoma the daughter of Dennis Lee and Bernice (Dunn) Burk.

 

Bulah’s mother died a few weeks after she was born.  She moved to Hammond, Oklahoma in order to live with her grandparents and spent most of her childhood in Hammond.  In 1936 she graduated from Hammond High School.  A few years later in 1942 she moved to Russell, Kansas and was married to O.M. “Bud” Snook.  Bud and Bulah were only together for a few years but from this union they were blessed with three children Dwane, Le Roy and Dennis.  Later, Bulah fell in love again and was united in marriage to Chester Carter, Sr. on December 19, 1953 in Russell.  From this union they were blessed with a son Chester, Jr.  Chester, Sr. preceded her in death on February 14, 1991.  Bulah was a wonderful homemaker who enjoyed taking care of her family.  She also was a very gifted writer of poems and a skilled artec painter.  She enjoyed taking care of her many plants, bowling and fishing but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Russell, the ladies church circle, V.F.W. Auxiliary and was a Cub Scout Den Leader for all her boys.

 

Surviving family include her sons Bert Dwane Snook and wife Wendy of Roundup, Montana, Le Roy Snook of Russell and Chester T. Carter, Jr. and wife Raye of Coos Bay, Oregon; a brother Le Roy Burk of Rancho Rio, California; half sister Claudia Hames of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren; and extended family Janelle Michaelis. 

 

She was also preceded in death by a son Dennis and eleven brothers and sisters.

 

A celebration of Bulah’s life will be held at 10 A.M. on Monday, December 8, 2008 at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell with burial to follow at the Russell City Cemetery.  Visitation will be from Noon to 8 P.M. on Sunday, December 7, 2008 with the family present from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. Sunday evening.  Memorials may be given to the Southwind Hospice and sent to the mortuary.  Condolences may be sent by email by going to www.pvpmortuary.com.  Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell is in charge of the arrangements.
