Howard Richard “Dick” Morgan, Jr. of Russell, passed away unexpectedly at his home on January 18, 2009, he was 87.  Dick was born September 16, 1921 in Jetmore, Kansas the son of Howard and Gladys (Pfiester) Morgan and was blessed with 11 brothers and sisters. 

 

Dick graduated from Dodge City High School.  He joined the U.S. Army Air Corp. and served during WW II in the Pacific as a Reconnaissance Photographer.  After the war, Dick continued his passion for photography by going to work as a professional photographer.  He was a successful photographer for many years owning portrait studios in Syracuse, KS and Salina, KS.  He continued his education by going to business school at Brown Mackey College for two years and received his license as a certified public accountant in 1965.  He was a self employed business owner throughout most of his life. Dick enjoyed being outdoors including golfing, spending time at the lake and fishing.

 

Dick was united in marriage to Irene Marie Hampl on February 22, 1946 in Dodge City.  From this union they were blessed with two daughters Sharon and Lexy and a son Kelly.  Irene preceded Dick in death on February 4, 1997.  He was also preceded in death by his parents, and 6 siblings.

 

Surviving family include his daughters Sharon Jones and husband Stan of Blue Springs, Missouri and Lexy Erickson of Elizabethton, Tennessee; son Kelly Morgan of Lyons, Kansas; grandson Russell Jones of Lee Summit, MO and granddaughters Sarah Jones of Blue Springs, MO and Kimberly Erickson of Elizabethton, TN; great granddaughter Kennedy Jones; brothers Floyd Morgan of Syracuse, KS, Truman Morgan of Mesa, AZ and Gary Morgan of Ulysses, KS; two sisters Wanda Lowther of Bentonville, VA and Marjorie Owsley of Ponca City, OK.

A memorial, Service of Remembrance, of Dick’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, February 12, 2009 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell with Pastor Earl Haggard officiating.  Cremation has preceded the service so no viewing is available.  Visitors may sign the register book from 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. on Wednesday, February 11th at the mortuary.  A private family burial will take place late Thursday afternoon.  Cards and condolences may be sent in care of the mortuary.  Condolences may be sent via email by going to www.pvpmortuary.com.  Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary is in charge of the funeral services.
