John August Lange, 72 of Bunker Hill, Kansas died Sunday, March 8, 2009 at Wheatland Nursing Center in Russell, Kansas. John was born March 15, 1936 in Bunker Hill, the son of Frank B. and Alma Fern (Frick) Lange. He grew up in Bunker Hill and graduated from Bunker Hill High School in 1954. He then attended a couple of years at Ft. Hays State University and Kansas State University.
John was a rancher by heart, but he also worked in several different fields. He built grain elevators with a construction company, worked for Cross Seed Co., he worked for the state of Kansas doing farm surveys for the National Association of State Agriculture. He was a volunteer for the Bunker Hill Fire Department for over 26 years.
John was united in marriage to Patricia A. Nelson on April 11, 1992 in Bunker Hill.
John lived in Bunker Hill most of his life, but he also lived in New Mexico during the 60’s.
John was a member of the Bunker Hill United Methodist Church and the Bunker Hill Lions Club. He enjoyed playing cards, riding horses and spending time with his family. When he was younger he was very active with rodeos.
Surviving family include his wife of 16 years Patricia of Bunker Hill; brother, Roy Franklin Lange and wife Judy of Great Bend, KS; sisters, Gladys Louise Baird and Verna May Hutchings both of Bunker Hill, KS; and numerous other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents and infant sister, Joyce Lange.
Celebration of John’s Life will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday, March 12, 2009 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell with Rev. Earl Haggard officiating. Interment will follow at the Bunker Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 AM to 8 PM Wednesday at the Mortuary with the family present to greet friends from 6 PM to 7 PM. A memorial has been established as The John Lange Memorial. Contributions and condolences may be sent in care of Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary who is in charge of these arrangements.
