Glenn V. Dumler, 86, of Russell, died on Sunday, April 5, 2009 at Main Street Manor in the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell.  He was born on August 17, 1922 in Russell, Kansas the son of John, Jr. and Amelia (Herdt) Dumler. 

He grew up in the Russell area and graduated from Russell High School in 1939.  After high school he went into the Navy and fought during World War II.  During the war he fought in Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asiatic Pacific Campaigns.  For his service he was awarded two Purple Hearts, European, African, Middle Eastern Campaign Medals, N.O.S. Medal and the WWII Victory Medal.  After the war he fell in love and was united in marriage to Arthena Valere Van Derbur on March 2, 1947 in Russell.  From this union they were blessed with a son John and daughters Glenda and Charlene.  Arthena preceded Glenn in death on December 7, 2002.  Glenn and the family moved away for a short time and lived in Grandview, Missouri where Glenn worked for J.C. Penny’s as a sales person.  Several years later they moved back to Russell where Glenn worked as the Supervising Custodian for Ruppenthal Middle School.  He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and a lifetime member of the Russell V.F.W. Post #6240.  He loved spending time gardening, hunting and fishing.  He especially loved spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. 

Surviving family include his son John Dumler and wife Debbie of Russell; daughters Glenda Woods of Wideman, Arkansas and Charlene DeVault and husband Daniel of Overland Park, Kansas; 7 Grandchildren, 9 Great-Grandchildren and 1 Great-Great Grandchild.

Those also preceding him in death were his parents, brother Donald Dumler; sisters Lilian Odum Copp and Phyllis Morganstern.
