Barbara June Seib, 68, of Russell, died on Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at the Russell Regional Hospital.  She was born on October 9, 1940 in Pittsburg, Kansas the daughter of U.G. and Helen (Carpenter) Hoag.  Barbara was also blessed with the opportunity to develop a great love and affection for her step-father Lenville Jenkins.

Barbara grew up in the Wichita, Kansas area. She attended and graduated from Hays Vocational School as an LPN.  Throughout her life she had a calling to help others and being an LPN allowed her to showcase her amazing ability to care for the injured and sick. In 1992 she decided she wanted to be closer to her family so she moved to Kansas City, Missouri where she lived for 13 years.  In 2005 she moved to Russell, Kansas where she continued to give care and friendship as a home health care companion.  Her compassionate care in the Russell community to those in need, helped give many of those people the opportunity to remain in their homes as long as possible before having to go to a nursing home facility.  As evident in the way she lived her life, you could tell Barbara truly enjoyed taking care of other people.  She enjoyed reading, crocheting, and cooking for friends.  She also enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren who gave her the nickname “Boo Boo” that stuck with her the rest of her days.  She was a member of the V.F.W. Women’s Auxiliary.

Those she leaves behind are one son Gregory Graf and wife Lety of Hemet, California, a daughter Tomasina Hicks and husband Gary of Overland Park, Kansas; brothers John Jenkins of Wichita, KS, Pat Jenkins of Los Angeles, California and Jeffrey Jenkins of Brooklyn, New York; sister Janet Pack of Wichita and 7 Grandchildren, as well as Lori Nuss and family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son Stephen Graf and brother Dennis Hoag.

A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 25, 2009 at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell with Henry Pohlman officiating.  Graveside burial will not take place and cremation has preceded the service.  Memorials may be given to the V.F.W. Women’s Auxiliary and may be sent to the mortuary.  Condolences may be sent via email by going to www.pvpmortuary.com.  Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
